  • Our Village

Montignac-Charente is situated on a historic crossing of the Charente dating from Roman times, guarded by the 11th Century Donjon. It is a charming, traditional village with a bustling daily market. A boulangerie, boucherie, tabac, bar, bistro, bank and cave au vins are all within 100 metres of the front door. For bigger shopping the nearest supermarket is just a few minutes away by bike or car in St Amant de Boixe.

It is also the centre of de la Bande Dessinée (comic books),hosting a four-day international festival every February.  And in September the three-day Circuit des Remparts, sees vintage car racing around the twisting roads.

The riverside towns of Vertueil, and la Rochefoucauld, dominated by their massive chateaux, are within easy reach, along with picturesque limestone villages such as Nantueil.

The impressively restored Gallo-Roman amphitheatre at les Bouchauds is fifteen minutes’ drive from Montignac and we are at the centre of a host of Romanesque churches and abbeys, not least that at St Amant-de-Boixe.
